Tonight: Chilly with a low of 23 and a clear night

Hi everyone and welcome to your Wednesday's edition of your Face of the Sky forecast! A sunny day it's turning out to be with some fluffy clouds to fill the sky. Starkville did not see any snow last yet alone rain and even in south Mississippi, I have not heard of any acculumating snow along the ground. With sunny conditions such as these, it makes it seem like a very warm day but highs are only in the mid 40s with northwest winds between 5 to 10 mph for the Starkville area. Even across the MS region, temperatures are currently around the mid 40s with cooler temps in the northern portion of MS. However, by tonight temperatures are going to be really chilly and this cold dry air will continue to stay throughout the week!

The reason for the cold air in place is due to cold high pressure in the area which will allow for sunny conditions but also cold air to pour into the south. That is why we will see this week's lows in the 20s. Also, with this cold high pressure in place creating a tight gradient, it will produce some strong northerly winds making temps cooler than what they really are.

So, for today highs will stay around the mid to upper 40s with mostly sunny conditions. Close to the end of the day, we should see fewer and less clouds with northwest winds of 10 to 15 mph. Due to winds gusting at 25 mph at times, the National Weather Service has also issued a Lake Wind Advisory for the central counties of MS. Tonight, if your planning on going to the MSU game tonight it's going to be cold one as temperatures fall to the lower 20s. Even throughout MS, lows will approach the 20s with clear skies allowing for plenty of cool air to be in place on the surface. Be sure to bundle up if your going anywhere out tonight.

Tuesday forecast for February 23, 2010

Today: High of 52 with partly sunny skies/ NW at 5 to 10mph

Tonight: Low of 33 with a chance of some stray light showers

A good Tuesday to you all! I hope the day is going great for all of you. Weather conditions are certainly looking good with partly sunny conditions outside currently. I thought the entire day was going to be filled with overcast conditions but it turns out that we were able to see the sun out with some fluffy clouds to fill the skies. Temperatures are only in the upper 40s at this current moment but feels a tad bit warmer than that. Tonight, looks to be another cold night with some areas in MS possibly receiving some snow.

The reason for this possibility of snow is due to some moisture from the west out from the Texas region which will be in place tonight along with the combination of cold air along the surface. With this combination, we will see a possibility of snow mostly falling in the southern areas of Mississippi along the corridor of I-20. So, areas such as Hattiesburg, Brookhaven, McComb and even cities further up like Jackson, Pearl, and Forest will see a mix between light rain and snow. However, no accumulation is expected. The best areas of snowfall will likely fall in the western part of MS like Vicksburg. As far as our area goes, I don't expect snow and maybe some light and stray showers for some parts of Oktibbeha county.

For the rest of today, expect highs to reach into the lower 50s with increasing clouds. Winds will come out the northwest at 5 to 10 mph. Tonight will be another night to wear something warm with temperatures dropping to the lower 30s again. A possible chance of stray showers in the area but only light.

Tomorrow, we will really begin to feel the return of winter weather as even colder temperatures becomes apparent. Lows for Wednesday night looks to be in the lower 20s! Brrrrr! Make sure to keep it here for your Face of the Sky forecast! Stay warm and may God continue to bless you!
