"Winter Break"

Picture brought to you by the weather channel

Today: High of 58 and mostly sunny

Tonight: Low of 40 with few clouds

~Starkville, MS

Well, we finally got a chance to see some warmer temperatures as yesterday's high got into the 50s. So, is this the end of the cold period of our winter you may ask? Well, not necessarily as we do have late January and the month of February to contend with, but as of right now you can say we're in the midst of a "winter break". Temperatures throughout the weekend and into next week looks to be fairly warm with 60s possibly popping up next week. We do, however, have rain making its way back into our forecast.

This morning is starting off very cool for us but will quickly warm up as we get closer to the mid afternoon hours. Clear skies early in the morning will change with more clouds coming throughout the day but still with plenty of sunshine. By the mid afternoon hours, we should see temperatures around the mid to upper 50s. So, a beautiful day in store for us. Now, as soon as the sun starts to set, those temperatures will start to drop as fast through the late evening hours and during night. The low will be at the low end of the 40s with scattered clouds and winds out of the east northeast at 5 mph.

For your weekend outlook, temperatures will still be in the 50s, but rain is in the picture for Saturday. During the early mornings of Saturday and into the afternoon hours, conditions will be clear of rain. So, if you need to go out or you have plans that will be outdoors it's best to do them early during the day. Also, for all the students who are planning on going home for the three-day weekend, it'll probably be in your best interest to go in the morning hours. My picture above is a map depicting interstates here in the south and it is illustrating weather conditions along the roadway. Of course, today and Saturday morning would make for some good travel conditions, but heading into the afternoon hours you will run into some heavy rain especially if your going south Mississippi or Alabama. Here in Starkville, rain should arrive around 2-5 p.m. From then on it will be a washout with lots of heavy rain and strong winds to go along with it. The rain will stick around throughout late Saturday night and will move off by Sunday morning. Look for highs on Saturday to be in the lower 50s. Sunday looks to be a mostly cloudy day with temperatures in the 50s.

As we look ahead into next week, we could possibly see temps hit lower 60s with more rain coming by mid week. Enjoy the weekend and the Monday off and be safe if your doing any traveling. God bless!
