Hi everyone and I hope everything is going well for all of you. I know it has been quite some time since I last posted a blog, but I've been so busy with freshman orientation this month at my job. Usually I try to write my blogs every morning at work, but since I've had to deal with orientation I just have not had the time. Now since it is coming to an end, I can start back writing blogs when time becomes available.
Can you believe it is already July! Woww! his summer is really flying by! Along with this summer, we have all felt the scorching heat and sticky humidity. About halfway through the summer, temperatures have been scorching and we have seen temps in the mid 90s and even the upper 90s on occasion. Also, you have to remember that with the added humidity it makes the air outside feel like it's over 100 degrees. This is called the heat index. It has been very dry as well and we have not seen much rain in our area. A hot and dry summer thus far but of course this is hurricane season and things won't be quiet for long. Even as we speak, we have Tropical Storm Alex in the Gulf of Mexico right now. We may get some much needed showers from Tropical Storm Alex if we are lucky.

What's Happening Atmospherically
Tropical Storm Alex is right now situated in the Gulf of Mexico at this current moment with wind speeds of 70mph and a pressure of 982mb. It is moving north-northwesterly at 12 mph. To become a hurricane, it only needs to increase its speed by 4 and right now I don't see anything hindering it from reaching that category. It has all the makings of becoming a hurricane and it looks very broad and organize. It is projected to become an hurricane by at least tomorrow if not later today. All the track models shows it mostly hitting the border of Texas and Mexico but will mostly go through Mexico. Even projected tracks show now Tropical Alex heading toward northern Mexico, but even then cities such as Brownsville and Corpus Christi will be impacted especially Brownsville, TX. Right now, Alex is only 151 miles away from Brownsville. Hopefully, people near the border have begun taken measures to secure themselves rather that is gathering food, water, and supplies. All hurricanes are dangerous but I don't see this storm being life-threatening especially when the proper precautionary measures are taken. This will mostly impact the Texas and Mexico border area. Also, it will be interested to see what type of impact this storm will have concerning the oil spill. I'll provide more details concerning that in my later posts. What we can expect here is tropical moisture moving inland from the south allowing us to get some showers.

Today
Numerous thunderstorms are expected today mainly during the afternoon as a frontal boundary approaches from the north while a sea breaze moves inland from the south. Make sure to have umbrella in handy as the rain could be heavy at time. Highs in the low 90s with a heat index of 97. Winds will be out the east at 5 mph. Tonight, scattered and isolated thunderstorms will still be in the forecast with lows in the lower 70s.

Wednesday outlook
