Currently
A good Thursday to you all as the day started off warmer than previous mornings as forecasted. So, you didn't have to wear such a heavy coat this time this morning as temperatures started off in the mid 50s today. Even at this hour around 10a.m, it is steadly increasing to the upper 50s with lots of low stratus clouds in the sky. We didn't get the amount of rain expected upon last night and this morning as this rain system quickly pass through the Mississippi region. Even at my house I only received light showers just for brief moments. Most of the rain has moved off toward Alabama and we'll only get a light sprinkle or two in the area today.

Today's Weather
Well, it was pretty warm throughout the night and has carried on well for today. Temperatures are going to be well above normal due to a pressure gradient. Pressure gradient is defined as the difference between high and low pressure. We have a low over Kansas and a high located in the Carolinas and because of the gradient or tension between the two, it is causing gusty southeast winds to keep temperatures warmer than normal. Despite the cloud coverage, we should see temperatures in the 70s today. The clouds will continue to hang about and we'll see a peak from the sun at times especially around the late afternoon hours. By tonight, we'll still have most of the clouds making for a mostly cloudy night with temperatures even higher than this morning. Looks like spring-time really wants to make an early entrance! However, this weekend a cold snap will come through late Sunday bringing conditions back to normal.

New Year's Eve
-Reason for Severe Weather
A very important forecast due to outside events and fireworks displays. As I have been forecasting all week, we are still on track for potential severe weather for Friday afternoon into Saturday morning. Nothing has really deviated from the models as they are still on course for lots of rain and a chance for severe weather outbreak. The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK still has a slight risk for the mid-south and the lower MS valley. You have alot of different elements that goes into severe weather. A high amplitude trough helping to strengthen a closed low. That strong surface low is going push eastward with some forcing and we will certainly have the warm surge of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. Dewpoints will be in the mid 60s, so lots of moisture and some energy provided from CAPE(Convective Available Potential Energy) values. Basically, it is the amount of energy in the atmoshere. Higher values of CAPE indicates greater potential for severe weather. Usually a sounding helps us(meteorologists) in showing CAPE values as well as helicities values which is also important in severe weather. What will limit the potential for severe weather I believe is the clouds hanging around tomorrow. However, if we get a bit of sunshine to heat the surface, then that chance goes up leading to more instability. Lots of clouds will limit the potential for severe weather. Although we didn't get much rain for last night, both Friday and Saturday could very well make up for it with rainfall totals forecast between a half-in-inch to an inch and a half. We could very well close this year out with heavy rain, damaging winds, large hail, and a possible tornado.
-Forecast
Most of the heavy rain will soon start up in the afternoon hours mainly after 12p.m on Friday. Along with the rain will come the potential for severe weather, so please tune in to your local weather stations for further updates. These weather conditions will last throughout the duration of Friday night and into Saturday morning. Most of the severe weather should occur in the afternoon and late evening hours of Friday and by nightfall only just the impacts of heavy rain and strong winds. This will certainly impact fireworks events especially with the risk of severe weather and heavy rain. Highs for Friday are going to be in the lower 70s and by Friday night bottom out to the lower 50s. Strong southeast winds at 15 to 20mph will make conditions very windy throughout Friday day, even gusting to 25mph at times. It will decrease slightly by nightfall to 10 to 15mph. So, the risk for severe weather to close out 2010. Even if you do go out to a party or an outdoor event, please check with local weather stations and just get updates concerning the weather. Also, note that a few of the outdoor events will probably be canceled due to the possible weather so be sure to checked or call first before going to an event. Here are some events around the Jackson area that will be going on:

New Year's Eve with David Banner-Fire-209 Commerce St.-December 31, 9p.m.

New Year's Eve with Stevie J & Blues Eruption-F.Jones Corner-303 N.Farish St.-Dec. 31, 11pm

New Year's Eve Party with Tommy Akers Band-Reed Pierce's Sportman's Grill-Dec. 31,9pm

I can't seem to find what all fireworks event will be held at across the state but if you do have any information please just send me an email and I'll be sure to post it. I will not be able to work on my blog for Friday because I will be traveling to Florida for the Gator Bowl. However, I hope you all have a Happy New Years and stay safe. Go Bulldawgs and God Bless!

Today: Heavy rain and isolated showers today late afternoon; High of 61; winds south between 10 to 15mph

Tonight: Heavy showers with isolated thunderstorms; Low of 53; winds southeast at 10 to 15mph

~Jackson, MS

Currently
Slightly warmer temperatures this morning as temperatures were already in the mid 40s by 8:00a.m. Lately as you've been waking up for work during that time, temperatures are usually still in the 30s. That must mean a sign of things to come. Yes, we do have some changes today with warmer temperatures but it will be overshadowed with mostly cloudy conditions today with heavy rain showers later this evening.

What's Happening Atmospherically
Right now on satellite imagery, we have a blanket of stratus clouds covering half of MS with a few breaks in it, so that it's not completely overcast. We should see the whole state covered with this large stratus deck of clouds as a rain system approaches. We are also getting these clouds due to the existing high pressure here moving further off to the east and bringing in some return flow. So as this high pressure begins to move off further east and weakens, we will see this rain system helped by a warm front make its way through today. As this warm front passes through, it will extend north allowing for widespread rain.
Before we get to this rain today, this warm front will allow for temperatures to be warmer today getting into the lower 60s for highs. If you need to do any errands or just want to enjoy outdoors, this morning and afternoon will be the best times before showers began. Heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms will begin in the late afternoon and evening hours. Rain totals are expected to be between three quarters and an inch an one quarter. We will have some elements such as elevated CAPE level, strong surge in warm moisture, and others to aid in the formation of isolated thunderstorms. So, you will probably here a rumbling or two if not more. I am expecting showers to last all throughout tonight and into earlier Thursday morning.

Thursday's outlook
Thursday looks like a complete washout as showers still continue over from Wednesday. For those of you who work morning shifts, be sure to have your umbrella in hand as you step out of your house to attend work. Most of your heavy showers will be mostly gone by Thursday morning, but we will still have those light showers that will continue until the late afternoon and evening hours of Thursday. Although Thursday will be highlighted by rain, our warmest temperatures yet this week will be on hand making conditions feel like spring-time. Highs are going to be around 70s degree! Spring-time indeed as this passing warm front will enable highs tomorrow to be very unseasonable-like.

New Year's Forecast
I am still watching potential for severe weather for New Year's Eve. The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted a slight risk for the area. Models shows a strong cold front system and along with that elements here that can aid in the make-up for severe weather such as high dewpoints, elevated CAPE values, instablity, southeast flow, and some shear. If all these elements and more come together at higher values then we could possibly have something. Right now though, we only have slight risk but please tune in into your local weather stations and here for further updates. Even without the severe weather, we still will have rain in the forecast and this will certainly impact festivities for New Year's Eve.

Be sure to drop back in tomorrow as I continue to feel you in about the potential for severe weather for Friday and also I will post different activities that will be going on for New Year's Eve. So, please be sure to come back tomorrow for your Face of the Sky forecast. You don't want to miss it! God Bless!

Today: High of 52 and increasing clouds throughout the day; winds at 5mph from southwest

Tonight: Low of 33 and mostly cloudy; Calm to winds being 5mph from the south

~Jackson, MS

Currently
Another lovely day starting off for us with plenty of sunshine early morning if you are just waking up for work. As forecasted, temperatures drop to the lower 20s last night making for a very cold night along with clear skies. Today, we are still maintaining clear skies but as we go throughout the afternoon we will start to see some mid-level clouds consisting of some passing alto-cumulus clouds to stratus clouds throughout the afternoon. These clouds will continue to hang about ahead of our next rain-maker.

What's Happening Atmospherically
High pressure is centered here in the south and this is what is keeping weather dry but rather cold here in the southern region due to bringing the cold air from the north. For today though, we will see a much warmer airmass today and temperatures will be a bit warmer. Along with this change will be the increase of clouds. Right now, we are mostly sunny but we have a large stratus deck of clouds to the west of us all located within the LA, AR, OK, and TX region and so we'll see an increase in cloud coverage essentially throughout the whole day. Now, there will be some moisture that will be squeezed from this stratus deck of clouds and some areas will receive some light precipitation tonight. However, the chances for light showers in our is slight and will most likely occur west of the MS river into states such as LA and AR.

Wednesday's outlook
Our next good chance for rain will come on Wednesday along with heavy rain and isolated strong storms. Models are in good agreement in saying the rain should begin around evening of Wednesday. These showers will include heavy rain we could get up to possibly anywhere from three quarters to an inch of rain as this rain system continue on to Thursday. There will also be a chance to see some isolated thunderstorms from this as this upper level disturbance moves across the area interacting with a a bit of a warm front. The National Weather Service (NWS) has already put out a hazardous weather outlook for southeast and central counties. I'm forecasting highs tomorrow to be warmer than today in the lower 60s. So, a good day to enjoy for the most part before the rain gets here.

The widespread heavy rain and storms will continue throughout Wednesday and into the early mornings of Thursday. Lows for Wednesday will only be in the 50s as this warm front will keep temperatures up. Light rain should continue as you wake up for work again Thursday morning and will hang about until Thursday afternoon. Usually temperatures are cooler after fronts but since we have a warm front passing through, temperatures will actually be warmer. We could actually see temperatures near 70 degrees again in some areas.

New Year's Forecast
Looks like we are going to end the 2010 year off being wet and having some severe storms for those staying around the Jackson area and pretty much anywhere in Mississippi for New Year's day. A surface low will slowly start to form out in the central plains and as it starts to push through the area on Friday, we will see an interaction with a southwest flow feeding it warm moisture and giving it some instability. This could certainly put a damper on festivities for Friday night along the yearly fireworks display from the general public. Continue to keep it here as I will certainly have more details about this severe weather. Enjoy these last few days of 2010 and God bless!

A good Monday to you all and welcome to your Monday's edition of your Face of the Sky forecast. I hope everyone enjoyed Christmas on yesterday and received the things you wanted. Even if you didn't, I hope you still enjoyed Christmas realizing that it wasn't about the gifts and presents but it was all about Jesus Christ our Saviour. I certainly had a great time and it was great to see family once again. It's always a blessing to see family and to see them doing well. So this was on Saturday when I visited family and I came back Saturday night. I was back in Jackson on Sunday and what caught my attention as well as everyone elses was snow flurries that occurred Sunday morning and afternoon. It was nothing heavy and it only produced light dusting. However, I did not see snow flurries in the forecast as our best chance for snow flurries were on Saturday. In simplest terms, the reason for the flurries was due to a combination of low level moisture and Arctic cold air in the higher levels. Even though it was dry but cold in the higher levels, we still had a little bit of moisture down at surface levels allowing for light dusting of snow flurries to occur. For the next two or three days, we won't see anymore of these flurries but it will still continue to remain cold here in the South.

What's Happening Atmospherically
We are still getting some strong cold air advection from the north which is going to maintain the cold conditions for today. The high pressure that is situated in the LA and Arkansas is giving us this nice sunny condition outside. For the rest of the day into tomorrow, we will continue to be under this ridge of high pressure as the cold air advection slowly lifts up out of the area. Even with the high pressure in placed, this cold airmass will continue for today and tonight as temperatures ranges from the upper 30s to middle 40s for our daytime highs and drop to the teens and lower 20s for our lows. We won't be quite as cool tomorrow as temperatures will slowly start to increase throughout the week. This high pressure will continue to keep the southern region dry and I am not expecting any heavy rain until mid-week on Wednesday or so. So, a relatively quiet first-half of the week we have in stored for us. However be on the look-out for stormy weather this weekend moving into our area by Friday. I'll keep you posted.

Today
A few high clouds in the sky but mostly sunny conditions with highs in the lower 40s. Wind chill factor in the upper 30s with winds from the northeast at 5mph.

Tonight
We will remain mainly clear for the rest of the evening into the night hours. A good night to shoot some early fireworks with clear skies on display. That is only if you can bear the cold temps that will be on display as well seeing temperatures in the lower 20s. Wind chill factor will be in the teens with calm winds tonight.

Tuesday's outlook
Look for another cool but yet sunny day tomorrow with slightly warmer temperatures. We may have stormy conditions to spoiled our plans for New Year's, so please keep it here for all your latest updates. I will have more details coming up for your Face of the Sky forecast. Enjoy the day and God bless!

Christmas Day forecast

http://www.mehtanirav.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/merry_christmas-1.jpg

Dec. 25, 2010 Christmas Day: Rain early in the early periods of Saturday morning until the afternoon hours; cloudy with a high of 46; with a cool wind from the north at 5 to 15mph.

Dec. 25, 2010 Christmas Night: A cool night with a low of 25 (wind chill factor 16) and partly cloudy conditions; winds northwest at 10mph

~Jackson, MS

Christmas Forecast
Christmas Eve is finally here and what a beautiful day it is. We are seeing nothing but pretty blue skies outside with sunny conditions. Temperatures are currently in the lower 50s and are expected to get up to the mid to upper 50s later this afternoon. I really wanted to just focused in the big day tomorrow, so not alot of weather discussions here today.

The main weather story for Christmas day is the chance for rain starting early in the morning a along with cooler temperatures. Models shows rain starting around the early mornings of Saturday. We are going to have rain the forecast throughout the morning and early periods of the afternoon. By the afternoon of tomorrow, rain should be moved off toward the west due to drier air aloft coming in. Also, cooler temperatures are expected as well as the highs tomorrow will be in the upper 40s. Later that evening, we have some really strong cold air from Canada that is going to dip down to the southern region and we are really going to feel it. Actual lows will be in the mid 20s but when you add in the wind chill factor it is going to feel like temps are in the teens. Especially when winds are going to be gusting at 25mph!

Be sure to have your coats, jackets, and umbrella in hand if you planned to be outdoors. Christmas Day certainly looks like the perfect day to bring out the sweaters! On the the behalf of Face of the Sky, I hope you all have a Merry Christmas! See you all next Monday! Stay safe and God Bless!

Thursday forecast for December 23, 2010

Picture brought to you by the http://www.hrneurope.com/uploads/avatar/Merry-Christmas-christmas-465666_1024_768.jpg

Today: High of 50 and sunny, winds northeast at 5 to 10mph

Tonight: Low of 31 and mostly clear, northeast winds at 5 mph and becoming calm

~Jackson, MS

Currently
One more day until Christmas Eve! How exciting and how quickly that the day has approach. If you have not finished your Christmas shopping, you only have a short period until the BIG DAY. If you do decide to finish up today, clear skies will accompany throughout the afternoon. Currently, our temperatures are in the upper 30s and lower 40s around the Jackson region. We have sunny conditions with winds from the northeast at 13mph and gusting at times at 20mph.

What's Happening Atmospherically
Surface high pressure will continue to help us maintain our sunny and clear conditions outside for the rest of the day. This high pressure is currently centered over the northern plains and ridging south into east Texas. So, we may see a few passing clouds but we'll remain mostly sunny. Even though it appears very sunny and clear, temperatures are going to stay on the cool side compared to Tuesday and yesterday. Cold air aloft from the northwest will keep temperatures down today and in some areas of MS below normal.

For tomorrow, we are going to have a surface low that is going give us a bit of rain for Friday evening. Models are a little uncertain to exactly when this rain will occur. Models are depicting rain to start early Christmas morning. Even with that the GFS model displays most of the showers east of Interstate 55. We should get some rain out of this low pressure system if not early Christmas morning then sometime during the day as the HPC points out.

Christmas Day forecast
Cooler highs for Christmas day making it feel very seasonable for Christmas. A high of 48 with mostly cloudy conditions. There were early reports of snow being in MS but as of right now mostly just rain. Now if the low pressure trends to a much slower side, then maybe some rain mixed with snow in northern MS. I'll keep you posted. Stay tuned for a more complete forecast discussion tomorrow. Stay warm and God bless!

Tonight: Foggy conditions and light drizzle; Low of 55 and mostly cloudy; winds changing from the south to the northwest

~Jackson, MS

Currently
A good Tuesday to you all and I hope all is well. I don't know about you guys, but I am a little tired today mainly because I stayed up watching the lunar eclipse last night. Of course, visibility here was impossible due to the sky being mostly cloudy here, so I resorted to an online site that provided coverage on it. It was spectacular and it was worth staying up for. It is nearly impossible to see the change in the moon here around the Jackson and surrounding areas due to cloudy conditions which are still persisting today. However, temperatures are already very warm. It does not feel like the first official day of winter in which it is today. It almost feels "tropical" minus the sun. The warmth and chances for light rain will be the main story for today.

What's Happening Atmospherically
Like I just stated in my Current weather discription, we are under some thick stratus clouds that have persisted throughout overnight. These clouds condition are due because of a warm front moving in a northerly direction out of MS and behind this front is alot of moisture. This warm front as well as warm air advection are helping to keep temperatures unseasonably warm; not only just for the current moment but throughout the day.

So because of the hanging clouds and moisture today, this will give our area a chance to see some light showers in the area later this evening. Both the NAM/GFS are in agreement that light showers are probable later today and into Wednesday morning as the cold front starts to push its way through. I am not expecting much of rain with only light drizzle and isolated light showers. We will remain warm for the most part, but also as the approaching cold front pushes through from the northwest we will be under foggy conditions later tonight and into Wednesday morning. This frontal fog occurence is due because of the warm moisture the warm front is leaving behind converging with the cold front which is bringing cooler air. The patchy fog conditions will be found in areas such as central and southern MS and along interstate 20. Always in the case of fog, be sure if your traveling to slow down due to the amount of visibility while traveling.

Today
Although under overcast skies this morning, we will see some breaks in the clouds today as temperatures rises to the upper 60s and lower 70s today. Mostly cloudy for most of the day. We will be a bit breezy as well as south winds will be about 10 to 15mph.

Tonight
A light shower or drizzle is possible tonight as a cold front comes through. Along with that will be hazardous fog conditions, so be careful if your traveling overnight. Lows will fall to the mid 50s tonight with still heavy cloudy conditions.

Wednesday's outlook
A very light drizzle with foggy conditions early Wednesday morning. Even though the appearance of Wednesday morning will appear as though the day will be cold, temperatures will actually still stay up. It won't be quite as warm but we'll still have temperatures near 60.

Christmas forecast
Temperatures will get back to around normal as a cold front through the southern region will lower highs to around the upper 40s. Cold air will once again filter back into the region making this week a roller coaster concerning temperatures. Have a great day and God bless!

Total Lunar Eclipse Tonight

I didn't realize it until later today that there will be a total lunar eclipse later tonight. We will be under mostly cloudy conditions, so it will be much harder to see this lunar eclipse. However, we will see some breaks in the clouds so you may get a small glimpse. For more information please visit,

Today: High of 60 with becoming cloudy; partly cloudy by the afternoon; south winds at 10mph

Tonight: Low of 50 and mostly cloudy, south winds at 10 to 15mph

~Jackson, MS

Currently
A good Monday to you all and I hope the weekend was pleasant for you. The road was filled with Christmas shoppers this weekend and it made traveling around town very difficult. Parking was hard to find and lines at stores made it hard to get into the Christmas mood for some. However, there was nothing to complain about concerning weather this weekend as highs were in the lower to mid 50s throughout both days with lots of sunshine and clear skies to help your day out. Even now there is still nothing but blue skies out with a hint of cirrus clouds to decorate the sky. The sun is shining beautifully and temperatures are slowly rising out from the present temperatures of the 40s. Also, these warm temperatures will continue to rise throughout this week as well and we'll have a bit of a warming trend starting today.

What's Happening Atmospherically
High pressure was the main element to having such wonderful conditions this weekend, and we still have this high pressure here which is now located more toward to the east. Temperatures will approach the mid 50s today as a result of the high pressure and a bit of warm air advection that will increase throughtout the MS, LA, and AR regions later this afternoon. Also, we will not entirely go the whole day being clear as we will have an increase in clouds through afternoon making for scattered or broken clouds coverage. The increase in cloud coverage is due to low level return flow and I stated last time what return flow is. It is define as a fast flow of warm and moist air from the Gulf of Mexico after a period of drier and cooler weather. Currently, that is the reason for the stratus deck of clouds we have right now in the Delta to the west of us. As we head into the overnight hours, we will be mostly cloudy which doesn't allow for much radiational cooling. Radiational cooling is the process by which temperatures cool rather quickly or rapidly overnight especially with the absence of clouds.

Today will be warm, but Tuesday will be even warmer. On Tuesday, temperatures will be 10-12 degrees above normal due to another warm front that will sweep the MS area. We'll definitely see warmer temperatures but also humid and moist conditions as our next chance of rain will accompany this warm front. We'll only have isolated showers that will pass through, so I don't expect a drencher for Tuesday. Both the NAM/GFS has most of the rain position mostly in north MS with the GFS calling for rain also further south into the Jackson area. I am really not expecting much but perhaps a few sprinkles or light showers from the isolated showers that we do have.

Today
Warm and plenty of sunshine as temperatures will rise to the mid to upper 50s today. An increase in clouds starting this afternoon, so becoming partly cloudy with winds from the south at 10-15mph.

Tonight
By overnight, we will see more clouds in the sky as temperatures won't drop very much. Lows will be in the upper 40s with winds from the south still at 10-15mph.

Tuesday's outlook
The warming trend continues for tomorrow as temperatures will have no problem in getting to the 60s bearing a setback. We do have a chance for rain in the Jackson area, but the probability is low.
Looking ahead to Christmas Day on Saturday, don't expect for temperatures to be quite as warm as there will be some changes coming up later this week. This has been your Face of the Sky forecast and I hope you have a great Monday! God Bless!

Tonight: Low of 35 with overcast conditions; winds northwest at 5-10mph

Goodmorning and a Happy Friday to each and every one of you! A cold morning to wake up to with a wind chill factor of 36 degrees, however, it is Friday nevertheless. Before I start this forecast, I would like to congratulate all of the successful college graduates who are graduating in December. Good luck and may God continue to bless you all on your future endeavors.
So, today is starting off pretty cool today and it won't warm up much today.

What's Happening Atmospherically
So,as you woke up for work this morning you most likely noticed the thick stratus deck of clouds we have covering the skies today. This stratus deck of clouds are left by the low pressure system that swept through yesterday and is now currently hanging along the coastline of FL. It brought some rain to our area but as my forecast from yesterday pointed out that we was not going to get much rain out of it. However, we are not completely done with these lingering showers as we have a bit of return flow that could give us some isolated showers for tonight. Return flow is define as reference to a fast flow of warm and moist air from the Gulf of Mexico after a period of drier and cooler weather. This return flow develops into showers streaming from the Gulf.

These showers will hang about mostly in southern MS but will try to creep slightly to the mid section of the region. The National Weather Service has called for a 50% chance of rain but I will undercut that percentage by half. NAM/GFS models show a little bit of moisture with the NAM showing more of it. I've also looked at what the Canadian model and Bufkit were displaying and the Canadian does show a little bit of moisture in the Jackson area, but Bufkit is calling for no rain at all. This is pretty much a hit-and -miss deal where a city such as Brandon or Pearl may get a shot of rain but Jackson is completely skipped. These isolated showers will mostly occur below interstate 20 along with low temperatures, and so you can't completely rule out the possiblity of a few flurries and freezing rain. The best to see possible flurries will be mostly in the south. These showers are only going to be isolated, so no major washout.

By observing the satellite/radar images, we have both thick and vey high clouds today. With the thickness of the clouds today, it is going to be very tough to get temperatures out of the 40s and into the 50s. We'll see a few breaks here and there to allow some sunshine through, but we'll mostly look at overcast conditions for most of the day. A ridge of high pressure begins to take its place in the southern region and so we'll see skies beginning to clear out for us starting Saturday and temperatures back around normal.

Today
Thick clouds will continue to cover up our skies as temperatures warm up very slightly. Temperatures will have a tough time getting out of the mid to upper 40s with winds from the northwest at 5 to 10mph.

Tonight
Isolated showers in the area but nothing heavy as far as rain totals go. Cloudy with lows in the mid 30s tonight with winds out of the northwest at 5-10mph.

Weekend outlook
Welcome back the sunshine as those clouds finally moves out leaving way to sunny conditions and a nice day to go shopping to gather up those last minute Christmas gifts. Temperatures will make it the 50s but we will drop rather quickly Saturday night as lows will reach the upper 20s! We'll remain pretty much sunny and having highs in the lower 50s throughout the weekend.

Looking ahead to next week and close to Christmas, we could potentially see temperatures in the upper 60s as a warming trend starts. Hope you all enjoy the weekend and I hope no one has to wrestle anybody down at the malls while shopping! See you all back next Monday and God bless!

Happy Thursday to you all and I hope all is going well for you. Today is starting off for as being mostly cloudy and quite WARM. It actually feels like an early spring day outside minus the ample amount of sunshine. Temperatures are already in the mid 60s and like yesterday's forecast discussion, I do look forward to seeing temperatures reach the near 70s today. We are still maintaining breezy conditions with winds from the southwest at 10 to 15mph and even gusting at times at 20mph. Although it is quite warm this morning, as we go throughout the day we will see temperatures drop rather rapidly, as well as a chance to receive some afternoon showers.

What's Happening Atmospherically
We are certainly having roller coaster temperatures of late as temperatures are warm one day and cold the next. By yesterday, highs came about to 65 degrees and today will be even warmer. We had a strong warm front that push through yesterday and has now push toward northeast. It really brought out the above normal temperatures but as of today we will have a cold front dragging right behind it. By 1:00p.m. today, surface maps forecasts that the main low pressure system will be in eastern TN and southern Kentucky region, but also connected to it will be another low pressure that is going to be located in LA. How this low pressure systems affects us is by: 1. unseasonably-like temperature currently and throughout the morning, 2. scattered showers in the afternoon, 3. and will issued back in cooler weather. Although both the NAM/GFS models are not exactly clear on when the rain will be out, they do agree that there will be scattered afternoon showers. These will linger throughout the day and into the night hours. We are not expecting too much regarding the amount of precipitation, but we could see anywhere from 0.01 to 0.05 inch. Scattered showers will continue to linger through early Friday morning. Both the Canadian/NAM model show a rain-free weekend but the GFS does show possible return-flow out from the Gulf which could give us another round of showers Friday night.
The other main story of today is declining temperatures. Temperatures will decline throughout the day as MOS forecasts 50s by 7:00 tonight and mid 40s around midnight. Cold air will once filter back in into our forecast and by tomorrow we will have highs back around normal. The cold air will really be evident in north MS as it will be a 10-15 degree difference in temperature compared to the temp here.

Today
Scattered afternoon showers later as temperatures will reach in to the upper 60s and possibly into the 70s depending on if there are any breaks in the clouds to allow sunshine. Have your umbrella in hand and raincoat as both showers and clouds linger into our Thursday night. Winds will be from the southwest at 10 to 15mph.

Tonight
Rain will still be scattered through the area along with colder and windy conditions. A shift in wind direction will occur as winds will change from the southwest to the northwest as cold air filters back into our weather. Lows in the 40s.

Friday's outlook
Lingering shower in the early portion of the morning but clearing off leaving temperatures to be around normal this time of year. Be sure to join me tomorrow for your Face of the Sky forecast. God Bless!

Hi and a good afternoon to you all! It's the middle of the work week and for some folks only two more days until the weekend. Always a great feeling of knowing you only have one or two more days until you get to enjoy yourself from work. Speaking of which, ten more days until Christmas. Exciting times I must say and nothing is as exciting as these temperatures outside for those of you who love cold weather. Now, for you warm folks you're probably wondering when will it warm back up again?? Actually, today is fairly warm with temperatures already near the mid 60 mark. It never fails to amaze mw how temperatures can be so low the next day but so warm the following day. Yesterday's high was 47 and so if the high today reaches 67, that will be a 20 degree increase. How does the temperature just increase like that you may ask and will it be even warmer tomorrow?

What's Happening Atmospherically
The reason for this jump in temperatures can be explained and observed on the 850mb chart. At 850mb, we meteorologists observe warm and cold air advection. What this means to you all and viewers is whether an area will potentially be warmer due to warmer air or vice versa. For today, we have warm air advection coming in from the south along with a warm front. This warm front actually makes for an interesting setup in our weather because it is keeping some moisture and rain from really penetrating into the mid to southern MS region. Last Monday, the NAM/GFS models were both showing rain later this evening but right now models are currently showing little to no rain going into Thursday. I believe this is due to this warm front which is keeping most of the precipitation in TN and northern MS and preventing rain from moving further south. However, we will remain partly to mostly cloudy for the majority of the day and within those clouds we could potentially see a lingering stray shower in the area late this evening.

Now, later tonight temperatures will slightly drop but not much. Being mostly cloudy and having strong warm air advection will help to keep temperatures well above their normal around this time of year.

By early Thursday, surface maps shows the warm front moving northeast and out of MS but behind it a cold front will drag through. How this will impact our weather is that it will build off from this warm air advection and temperatures will be expected to soar to unseasonably-like temperatures. Imagine near 70 degrees in mid December! Also, Thursday provides another chance for rain but I believe Friday will the best and favorable day to receive some.

Today
Look for highs around mid 60s with partly cloudy conditions throughout the early portion of the afternoon. Going forward throughout the day, more clouds will appear but temperatures will drop slowly and ever so slightly. A windy day as well with southeast winds blowing at 15mph. Hang on to those hats!

Tonight
A warm night for us as lows will only drop to the lower 50s. Being mostly cloudy for the entire night along with warm air advection will keep these temperatures from falling any lower. Winds from the south will still maintain its speed at about 10 to 15mph.

Thursday's outlook
Thursday looks to be the warmest day of the week with unseasonably high temps near the 70s. For all who wanted warm temperatures again, you got your wish. Thank you for taking a look at your Face of the Sky forecast and have a great rest of the evening! God Bless!

Good afternoon to you all and thank for joining me here for your Monday's edition of your Face of the Sky forecast. A very cold day it is turning out to be with temperatures only in the lower 30s now. I'm afraid it won't get much warmer than that even with the radiant sun shining so beautifully outside. Temperatures are only expected to stay in the mid to upper 30s today throughout the area. I know some of you may not like the cold conditions outside but I feel as though these type of conditions really helps to bring in that holiday feeling and that sense of winter. Aside from the chilly conditions, today is a very sunny day with ample amount of sunshine accompany by clear skies.

What's Happening Atmospherically
The cold air advection is still remaining in place after a cold front system moved through the Southern region this weekend. Actually, wind chill factor early Sunday morning were in the teens due to gusty winds that persisted throughout most of Sunday. I woke up periodically early Sunday morning upon hearing the strong gusty winds outside and at times gusting to 30mph. Winds are still still blowing hard from the northwest at 10 -15 mph. This cold, Arctic air is still in place and will be throughout half of the week. However, starting tomorrow we will steadly start to warm up just a bit. We'll not only warm up abit but we'll remain clear for the most part as well which will be due to high pressure moving back and lifting this trough of cold air off to the northeast. However, behind this front we will have another chance of showers along with a cold front system. This cold front should make its way here by Wednesday and there is a chance for rain later for Wednesday afternoon period. Depending on conditions, some areas in north MS could possibly see some sleet or maybe some flurries. Temperatures will be much higher ahead of this front and we could be back into the 50s by Wednesday.

Today
A very cold day indeed for the south as temperatures around the Jackson area are only expected to be around the mid 30s. Clear and beautiful sunshine will remain for the most part.

Tonight
Be sure to bundle up tightly once again as temperatures will drop well below freezing. We will have clear skies, so this means temperatures will quickly drop. Radiational cooling will impact the temperatures tonight and our low will actually be in the teens or possibly in the low-end of the 20s. Also, winds will be down as well allowing for temperatures fall rapidly. If you haven't already covered up your pipes, you need to definitely do that before tonight as we will have a hard freeze warning out tonight. This hard freeze warning will is in effect until Tuesday noon. Be careful as you head out for work or school in the morning as some roads could be hazardous especially after a freezing night.

Tuesday outlook
Slightly warmer temperatures as we will finally touch the 40 degree mark. Clear skies will once again make an appearance in our forecast. Stay warm and God Bless!

Update for December 11, 2010

As I promised on yesterday, I do have an update for you all. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a tornado watch for most of the eastern and middle counties of MS until 9:00p.m. Also, the Jackson National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory which will be in effect from midnight to 6pm Sunday.

Both the watch and advisory is due to a strong cold front from the north which will progress southeast through the Mississippi area. Behind this cold front, conditions will become very gusty as winds will change directions. This will impact temperatures as well as the wind chill factor could be well into the teen for some areas. So, it will be very cold throughout and into Sunday morning as you get up for church. Brrrr!!! Be sure to bundle up.

As for later this evening, isolated strong storms will occur and most of the activity should get here in the next hour or two. Some of these storms could potentially have strong rotation and could be severe. Be sure to stay tuned to your local weather stations for updates. I'll have another update tomorrow. God Bless!

Friday forecast for December 10, 2010

~Jackson, MS

Currently
Hi everyone and I hope everyone had a good Thankgiving. Certainly, mine was great and it was definitely a blessing to see all of my family and of course partake in some great food. Since then, temperatures have decreased and the entire Mississippi area have been experiencing cold nights. Actually, for the past four days now we have seen lows in the mid 20s. Last weekend, some isolated severe storms came through and brought in very strong winds and another account of a tornado in Yazoo City. So, this December month has been very active from the start and we could possibly see more action this weekend as well as another blast of cold Arctic air our way.

Weekend outlook
This blast of winter air will definitely be felt on Sunday night as lows are expecting to dip to the lower 20s and even into the lower teens in some places. This dip in the low will be helped also due to radiational cooling, so look for Monday to a very cold day. Highs are only expecting to get to the mid to upper 30's!! However, let's back to tomorrow. There were signicant signs to severe weather occuring across the state of MS. We have a low pressure from the north that is going to dip and make it's way south. There will also be moisture ahead of this frontal system, so a very good chance of a late aternoon shower. As far as the severity of the storms, all the importants elements that goes into severe weather is not there all way. There are still some elements such as strong winds aloft at 300mb. We'll be practically in the midst of a jet streak coming which will cause a bit of diffluence. At 500mb, strong PVA will be present which is also another element you look for in the presence of severe weather. Dynamics and other elements make Saturday low-end potential for isolated strong or severe storms. I'll try to have another blog tomorrow with updates.

Saturday outlook
We will start off warm on Saturday with hanging clouds in the sky. If you have plans, be sure to do them early as the afternoon will be filled with rainy conditions and potential isolated strong storms. Stay tuned for more and God bless!
