~Jackson, MS

Currently~as of 10:15a.m.
A good day to everyone and welcome to your Thursday edition of your Face of the Sky forecast. Most parts of Mississippi is seeing clear and sunny skies right now although the northern portion of MS is still enveloped under a lot of cloud coverage. Due to this cloud cover, temperatures are lower in cites such as Starkville, Columbus, as well as Tupelo compared to what it is here in Jackson. Outside my window currently, I am seeing a few stray clouds mostly cumulus but it is all sunny here. As we approach the afternoon hours, most of the dense thick clouds in MS should erode away as high pressure moves deep into the region. Currently, conditions are a little cool as temperatures are in the upper 40s. Temperatures will rise a bit through the afternoon but for today we will be on the mild side. Unlike last weekend where Saturday was a complete wash-out, this weekend looks to be fairly dry.

What's Happening Atmospherically
After a quick moving front pass through here yesterday morning giving us plenty of rain, we are left in its wake dry and cool conditions. A trough from the north has drop into the southern region and we are getting a lot of cold air advection (850mb) flowing through here. Typically, that is what you usually experience after a cold front in the spring passes through. Right behind a cold front is typically cooler and drier air due to the dry line that flows behind a cold front. We are experiences that right now as milder temperatures will be on tap for today. A 1032 high pressure has sunk into the region as well and will help give us plenty of sunshine for today.

As we get closer to the night hours, temperatures will drop steadily and rapidly as we will have clear skies for tonight. Due to clear conditions and light winds, radiational cooling will take place and we could see some locations feature temperatures at or below freezing. These temperatures will mostly be in our eastern counties, but here in Jackson we could get awfully close. So if you have any valuable plants outside, please be sure to protect them by possibly bringing them indoors.

As this high pressure continues to maintain its stay in the region and move eastwardly, we will start to see temperatures go back to normal as by Friday we will be back into the 60s. For this weekend, we could be in for an uneventful weather pattern as most of the weekend will be dry and pleasant even though surface analysis charts show a cold front trying to make it way through here late weekend. Temperatures will creep back into the 70s on Saturday because of the strong warm southerly air that will come from the south as the high pressure begins to moving further east . However, with this front moving in Sunday models does not show much of any precipitation from this. Also, models are in disagreement with rain chances for Sunday evening. Right now, it only looks like spotty showers around MS Sunday evening into Monday.

Today
Looks like a sunny day throughout the entire Mississippi region as high pressure settles into the area. We will feel a little cool as temperatures will only get to the upper 50s despite ample amount of sunshine. Winds out of the north will be the primary reason for cool conditions with wind speeds between 10 and 15mph.

Tonight
Some areas will come close to experiencing at or below freezing temperatures as we will have clear skies tonight with calm winds. In the Jackson area, we should drop anywhere between 33 and 36 degrees.

Friday
Its going to be a lot warmer Friday as temperatures by the afternoon should reach into the 60s. What a great way to start the weekend off with warm conditions and lots of sunshine.

Long-term
Anything can change when your dealing with long-term forecasting but it looks like the majority of next week could be fairly dry. It would be nice for a change after starting this month off with severe weather. Thanks for stopping by to view your Face of the Sky forecast and God bless!
