Friday forecast for December 10, 2010

~Jackson, MS

Currently
Hi everyone and I hope everyone had a good Thankgiving. Certainly, mine was great and it was definitely a blessing to see all of my family and of course partake in some great food. Since then, temperatures have decreased and the entire Mississippi area have been experiencing cold nights. Actually, for the past four days now we have seen lows in the mid 20s. Last weekend, some isolated severe storms came through and brought in very strong winds and another account of a tornado in Yazoo City. So, this December month has been very active from the start and we could possibly see more action this weekend as well as another blast of cold Arctic air our way.

Weekend outlook
This blast of winter air will definitely be felt on Sunday night as lows are expecting to dip to the lower 20s and even into the lower teens in some places. This dip in the low will be helped also due to radiational cooling, so look for Monday to a very cold day. Highs are only expecting to get to the mid to upper 30's!! However, let's back to tomorrow. There were signicant signs to severe weather occuring across the state of MS. We have a low pressure from the north that is going to dip and make it's way south. There will also be moisture ahead of this frontal system, so a very good chance of a late aternoon shower. As far as the severity of the storms, all the importants elements that goes into severe weather is not there all way. There are still some elements such as strong winds aloft at 300mb. We'll be practically in the midst of a jet streak coming which will cause a bit of diffluence. At 500mb, strong PVA will be present which is also another element you look for in the presence of severe weather. Dynamics and other elements make Saturday low-end potential for isolated strong or severe storms. I'll try to have another blog tomorrow with updates.

Saturday outlook
We will start off warm on Saturday with hanging clouds in the sky. If you have plans, be sure to do them early as the afternoon will be filled with rainy conditions and potential isolated strong storms. Stay tuned for more and God bless!
